World Games 2025 – Michael Kunz Represents Switzerland in Historic Wakesurf Debut

For the first time in history, Wakesurfing was included in the World Games, held this year in Chengdu, China – marking a major milestone for the sport on the global stage. Representing Switzerland, Michael Kunz not only took part in this premiere event but made a powerful statement on behalf of European wakesurfing.

Michael battled his way through a highly competitive field in both qualifying rounds and semi-finals, ultimately securing his place in the finals – an incredible achievement. He finished in 6th place, and was the only European athlete to reach the final round.

“It was an absolutely amazing experience. The energy, the level of riding, and especially the opening ceremony – all of it was unforgettable. I’m incredibly proud to represent my country as a Swiss athlete,” says Michael Kunz.

Beyond the competition itself, the World Games offered a unique opportunity to showcase the growing talent and passion within the wakesurfing community. For Michael and his team, this event marks not just a career highlight – but a glimpse into the exciting future of the sport.

From August 5–12, 2025, wakesurfing will appear for the first time ever at the 12th edition of World Games in Chengdu, China – and representing Switzerland in the skim division is none other than Michael Kunz (COA)!

👏 Huge congratulations to Michael on this selection. We’re proud to see you carve the Swiss legacy into wakesurf history!
